Authors for Harris, Being a Therapist of Color, and My New Audiobook!
Life has been interesting lately
Here’s what’s been going on lately…
Authors for Harris
Earlier this week I was invited by my friend and Dry Humping author
to the Authors for Harris organizing call. At this point you’ve probably seen (or even been invited to!) these calls, created in the hopes of saving our democracy from extremism and autocracy. I haven’t had the time or mental space to join previous calls, but mustered up some extra energy after a day of therapizing and I’m glad I did.More to come on that and I’ll be sure to share any news if you’d also like to be involved or donate. While I don’t often talk specifically about my politics online (because frankly I don’t have time for foolishness) I am ready for a future that prizes social justice and equity for everyone, and most notably for Black and LGBTQ+ folks.
“Why We Need More Therapists of Color” on Embodied
Being a visible Black male mental health professional is a large part of my mission as I work to create space for BIPOC to invest in themselves and their self-care as an act of self-preservation. Recently, I was asked to appear on WUNC’s show Embodied with Anita Rao and this episode centers on mental health and therapy for people of color. Along with yours truly, there are some great insights from Sahaj Kaur Kohli of @browngirltherapy.
It was a real treat for me to also share my thoughts with local North Carolina radio (my home state!).
You can listen to the episode (full transcript is also available) at this link.
I’m recording my new audiobook meditation program!
I’m also wrapping up the audio recording of my upcoming audiobook meditation program Meditations for Black Men! This is my second time recording an audiobook (my first was voiced by the talented André Santana) and I have to say I’m always stunned by how much effort it takes to read/perform it AND, in comparison, how little I actually end up talking on regular days. Wish me, and my voice well, as we head into the finishing touches. I have to say, I can’t wait until you all hear this. It’s going to be really special.
That call left me fired UP!
